We have just released the translation of Malena, by Demare with lyrics from Manzi.
This tango simply is mythical. There are so many hypotheses as to who Malena was that it’s hard to tell if she really existed.
Click, read the lyrics and listen to this beautiful song.
Every Tuesday, we publish a tanda to get you inspired for the week. Today, a tango tanda by Lucio Demare; featuring Solamente ella, which he composed.
There are 3 words commonly used in tango which I can only think of as "frenemies". They sound helpful whilst actually leading to misunderstandings about what tango and what the role of each partner is about. Let's expose them now. Maybe we can confront these frenemies, bend these hung-up definitions and achieve a nicer dancing experience in the process.
This week is a special treat - with Pugliese songs bringing so much drama to the dancefloor, they are often chosen for performances, so we've selected quite a few by world-class artists, including Lorena Ermocida.
Volcadas are beautiful out of axis steps where the follower leans forward onto her partner. There are quite a few versions, the main ones being circular vs linear volcadas.
Planeos... Another beautiful, aerial tango family step. In the beginner class, we started with two classic planeos, one from the backward ocho and the other from the forward ocho. In the second class, we were a bit more adventurous and saw an off-axis planeo, a planeo on both legs and a very nice planeo from a sentada (a personal favourite)
In this class, for beginners and improvers, we saw a simple pivot from the sandwich - we really like this step, it's cute and romantic. We then moved on to a first linear volcada from the back cross (a classic) and another linear volcada with the follower's right leg (much more original).
Let's wake up from our winter slumber with this nervous tanda by Biagi!
Connection is a much debated topic in tango. It's what it's all about in the end, isn't it? A warm, gentle embrace, moving to the music as one...
Technique can help and ensure that you get more of these memorable tandas, these beautiful "tango moments" as we like to call them.
