Dimension: Axis - Theme: Pasadas/paradas

To start our new term, we focused on paradas and pasadas, these steps where the follower steps over the leader's leg. We started with a simple combination for beginners and then explored a pasada in backward ocho followed by a single axis turn for the intermediates and up. Challenging but also beautiful!

This month, we explore the tango dimension "Immersion" and look at getting inspiration from the great dancers and masters of the Golden Age of tango. We've already seen in class a couple of steps from Osvaldo and Coca Cartery, the 2004 tango world champions and the specificities of their dancing style.

In this 2-part interview, they give us many interesting insights into the history of tango and milongas.

Giraldo Portalea is very famous for his unique combinations, his smooth dancing and his cadencia. In this class, we started with the Americana before exploring some of Portalea's signature moves: a mix between back cross and backward ocho, a single axis turn from a unique entry point, and an Americana using counter-energy.

Los Perez are unavoidable in Buenos Aires. Apparently all tango world champions have trained with them at some point. We started the beginners class with a simple ocho with sacada before moving on to an ocho with leader's adornment, a giro with a barrida and a playful little cadencia.
