Nathalie and I have carefully translated the lyrics of one of Enrique Rodriguez’s songs: Son Cosas Del Bandoneon (Just Like a Bandoneon) and written a short piece on our interpretation of it.
We sometimes find direct translations to be a little strange and rough, as language rarely match up exactly, so we have adapted it slightly to keep it poetic – which is of course closer to how it is received in Spanish. Every line does of course have the same meaning as the original song.
If like me you didn’t already know what a bandoneon is; it is an instrument used frequently in tango music. It is similar to an accordion except it is associated primarily with Argentina and instead of keys it has buttons.
