Every week, you’ll find on our blog class notes and a summary video from our Wednesday and Sunday tango group classes.
These video and notes are meant to help our students remember what they’ve done in class.
Dimension: Embrace - Theme: Grounding technique
In this class, we had a look at how to use what we call the grounding technique to slow down in the walking, create boleos without pivot and a fancy pivot on two feet.
Summary video
Beginners & improvers: Slowing down
Top tips
- Leaders: When you want to slow your partner down, try and step heavier and use the grounding technique in your embrace.
- Followers: Try and be sensitive to the intensity of the embrace to respond accordingly.
Intermediates & up: Dry boleo
Top tips
- Leaders: When you step with the left leg before leading the boleo, take a heavy step, pushing hard onto the floor. This will ground the follower’s supporting leg and prevent her from pivoting.
- Followers: In the dry boleo, try and avoid pivoting with the supporting leg and instead focus on the whip-like move from the free leg.
Intermediates & up: Dry boleo and parada
Top tips
- Leaders: It’s the stepping backwards that create the energy for the dry boleo.
- Followers: When stepping forward, try and avoid collapsing.
Intermediates & up: Pivot on two legs leading to the cross
Top tips
- Leaders: When stepping, ground your partner with your embrace so that she remains with her weight on two feet; this is crucial to lead her to pivot and to cross.
- Followers: Try and be sensitive to the intensity of the embrace to respond accordingly.
Homework
