02.07.2011. We’ve selected our Orchestra of the month: Francisco Canaro (1888 – 1964) who has a fascinating story! Read on to understand why…

His beginnings are so deeply intertwined with those of tango that in the mid 50’s, the expression “when Canaro already had his orchestra” was used to describe extremely old events! Born in deep poverty, he started playing the guitar and the violin from a young age. He first performed in Buenos Aires’ La Boca in 1908, which gained him some fame. With Canaro being such a creative and prolific artist, it is no surprise that tango dancers around the world still take great pleasure in dancing to the many pieces that he composed! The good news is that we’re not about to run out of inspiring tunes – Canaro’s orchestra recorded thousands of songs.
