Today is the birthday of Osvaldo Pugliese, the Argentine director and composer born in 1905. Pugliese is best known for his dramatic arrangements which retained strong elements of the walking beat of tango salón while heralding the development of concert-style tango music.

Eduardo Moreno was the lyricist of “Recuerdo”, the most successful tango composed by Pugliese. La Yumba (1946) is another signature song by Pugliese – some almost see it as the anthem of its orchestra.
